Dear Friends and Hamilton High Alumni,

It has been my pleasure to work with the Board of Directors of the Hamilton High Alumni Association (HAA) for the last three years and this week be elected to fill a board position .   We work very hard to provide scholarships for deserving Hamilton High School graduates who have been accepted to college. The problem we face, however, is that we do not have sufficient funds to meet the need that exists for the excellent students who apply for our aid.

The Alumni Association has a Scholarship Committee that reviews all applications and then interviews each of the applicants.  These students who apply show us how hard working and dedicated they are about improving themselves and our society.  Many of them come from one parent families where they had to care for their younger siblings till their mother or father came home from work.  Most of the family incomes were less than $20,000 per year.  (The committee talked about one young woman who had to spend an hour and a half on the LA bus system each way to get to and from school each day because Hamilton offered the classes she wanted to take and they were not available at her local school.  One strong student, who is dedicated to her educational goals!)  We gave scholarships to all of the applicants but, due to our financial constraints, the largest one was only about $1,500 and that was only for one year!  Several $1000 scholarships were given but some only received $250 as we were limited by our funds. We should be able to do so much better!

I have not sent a letter to friends asking for donations since 2007 when I was coaching Hami’s sports team.  I am asking now. Please write us a check and send it to Hamilton High Alumni Association PO Box 64340 Los Angeles, CA 90064 or use your credit card at our website You could also call our office at  (800) 479-4878. This donation is tax deductible and it will help some kids who truly deserve it.  If you have questions about the HAA, call our office and speak to our President, Marvin Sugarman or call me at (310) 926-9844. Lastly, do me one more favor.  Forward this email to your fellow alumni friends with a note that you donated and so should they.
